All of Microsoft’s notification channels are getting urgent news out about a new security update that will be released on October 23rd. It will affect all currently supported, both mainstream and extended, forms of Windows (Windows 2000 and later).
Outlook PST File Backups With Connected Online
I previously mentioned the different methods of creating backups of your MS Outlook PST and for the most part its a manual process. You can still use Microsoft’s Outlook plugin to create an automated copy of the PST file but it still requires a safe offsite backup.
Windows 7 Is Coming
The first public beta releases of Windows 7 will be hitting the streets in the next couple of months. The first signs of this are visible as a new product in Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), the security update mechanism from Microsoft, Windows 7 Client.
Windows 7 is the successor to both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Windows 7 Client is expected to appear on Microsoft Connect in November or December 2008.

Microsoft Launches New SME Products
Microsoft has long had a solution with “Small Business Server” for the small business with less than 75 users. They recently released the latest version of this, SBS 2008. This solution gives the small business an integrated single server solution allowing central data storage (and backups!), email (with PDA “push email”), database and policy enforcement for desktops/laptops. It’s intended to be a simple appliance solution that allows the small business to get online and have much of the functionality that was exclusive to larger companies.
Microsoft Launches New Virtualisation Strategy
Microsoft launched their new virtualisation strategy on Monday, 8th of September, featuring Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008. We often think of virtualisation of just being a collection of virtual machines running on a server. Microsoft, and C Infinity, sees it as being much more. New Managed Virtual Hosting Infrastructure Launched
C Infinity has announced the launch of their new managed virtual server hosting infrastructure based on Microsoft’s Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V and System Centre Virtual Machine Manager 2008.
Microsoft recently released their new machine virtualisation solution, Hyper-V. Based on Windows Server 2008, allows machine virtualisation using a hypervisor. This provides greater performance and flexibility.
C Infinity Engineer Awarded MVP
Aidan Finn was awarded with the “Most Valuable Professional” status by Microsoft on 1st July, 2008. He was given MVP status for his work on promoting and assisting others with Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager, a flagship product in Microsoft’s network management product catalog.
