ICS & EuroCloud Ireland Seminar On Cloud Computing

EuroCloud Ireland and The Irish Computer Society are organising a seminar on “Cloud Computing – climate change for legal contracts?” on Thursday July 1st at 7.45am. The Location will be Dublin City Centre, the venue will be confirmed in advance of July 1st.

Philip Nolan examines the legal implications of cloud computing for your business. He looks at its likely impact on your existing legal responsibilities and relationships. Philip will focus on how to address contractual matters such as service provider liability, data protection and retention as well as capacity/availiability issues and their impact.

Philip is a partner and head of Mason Hayes+Curran’s Commercial Department, as well as being a board member of EuroCloud Ireland.

Weedle Goes Live

We’re delighted to see that one of our customers, Weedle , went live last night at a launch event in Dublin. Weedle provides a social network where you can advertise your skills or find someone with a particular skillset Weedle helps you get found by people who need your skill. It’s more than just simple recruitment; if you’re a tree surgeon then you can let people know of your availability. If you’re looking for a plumber you can find one on Weedle. Weedle connects people with people.

We met with Weedle for the first time during the winter. They were still developing their product but they knew what they wanted. They wanted to work with a hosting company that would be their IT infrastructure partner. Weedle wanted to focus on developing and marketing their product and not become some accidental IT company. The match was perfect because that’s what we do.

Weedle have made great use of our monitoring solution and our ability to expand their resources in a rapid manner. During their beta launch we were able to monitor their systems and quickly adjust the infrastructure to meet the massive and unexpected demand.

It’s been a pleasure to work with a passionate and professional company like Weedle. We wish them the best and look forward to them being a huge success.

Update release for Connected Backup Software

We are currently in preparation for a mass deployment of the latest release of our PC & Laptop backup service, Connected 8.4.0.5. This new release brings enhancements to interoperability, improvements to deployment and fixes for known issues.

No action is required for customers at this point as the update is 100% automated. The next time you connect into our data centre the software will be downloaded and installed. There is no need to configure the update as your backup settings will be maintained and will work as normal.

Over the next week I will be monitoring the deployment, the status of customer’s backups and ensuring everyone gets the usual high level of support from my team.

From next week UK organisations that lose sensitive data could be fined up to £500,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office.
“These penalties are designed to act as a deterrent,” Information Commissioner, Christopher Graham said. Fines will be determined by an investigating a data loss and will take into account whether the loss was accidental, what effect an information leak had, and size and financial position of the organisation.

“When things go wrong, a security breach can cause real harm and great distress to thousands of people. I remain committed to working with voluntary, public and private bodies to help them stick to the rules and comply with the Act. But I will not hesitate to use these tough new sanctions for the most serious cases where organisations disregard the law.”
