Microsoft TechNet Ireland recently ran a survey to identify trends in Irish
Trends. Some of these were posted in an article by Silicon Republic. 62% of Irish IT professionals say that their IT budgets are being cut. At the same time 76% of them say that the business is relying on IT to find ways to make the organisation find ways to be more efficient.
C Infinity’s experience in this was shown by our Systems and Infrastructure Manager, Aidan Finn, being quoted in the article.
“Running an IT infrastructure is a challenging task at the best of times. Keeping up with support tasks, engineering in response to business changes or customer requirements is complex and time consuming. Given the economic challenges we face, IT is often the first aspect of the business to face a budget cut because it’s usually a non-revenue generating cost centre.”
One of the ways to cut those costs is to approach IT from another angle. Instead of investing in new infrastructures, introducing complexity and distracting the organisation from business and focusing on IT, you can start to treat IT like you treat your electricity or water supply. Would you build a power station in your backyard to turn on a light? Then why do you spend a fortune building and maintaining a computer room and all those distractions just to have IT. IT is a business enabler, not your business.
Imagine if you could consume IT infrastructure services on an as-you-need-it basis. And wouldn’t it be even better if you paid for it as you used it? Well you can. The C Infinity private cloud allows you to avail not only of IT infrastructure but the expertise and experience to manage it, all on a service basis. C Infinity partners with you to identify your requirements and to run your IT. You’ll be running on the best equipment available, in the best data centre and with the ability for your staff to be mobile. Now you don’t need to worry about big expenditures or tough decisions. The work is done for you at a fraction of the cost you could do it for yourself.
Other interesting possibilities arise because of this. Collaboration with regional or international offices and partner companies is often a challenge for Irish organisations. By adopting the private cloud computing approach you are working remotely, even if you are in the office. Working from the office is no different to working from a branch office, a hotel room or from home. This makes your workforce mobile and your organisation flexible. If you are open to it and able to, you can start allowing your work force to work from home. With a simple home broadband connection they can do almost everything they could do at the office. That allows you to consider reducing your office space requirements to reduce your rent and insurance. And remember, you’re enabling this by reducing your IT spend! Your staff are happier (making them more likely to stay loyal when the economy recovers and new employment opportunities arise) and your business costs are lower. The only loser is your landlord!
We like to think that our solution is holistic. We aren’t providing an IT service to solve IT problems and reduce IT costs. We look at the bigger picture to solve business problems, reduce business costs and make the business more flexible and competitive. Armed with the C Infinity private cloud you can focus on winning business, driving down costs, having a more satisfied and unified workforce and thriving in even a challenging economy.
To wrap up we’ll look at the piece of this that will make your CFO happy. IT budgeting is usually a black art. You never really know how much you’ll need to spend in the following year. You make a guess but a business requirement throws a spanner in the works driving up that spend in a very unpredictable way. With the C Infinity private cloud we don’t charge for intangibles like CPU cycles or I/O transactions. We keep it simple with things that a PC shopper can understand. You’ll go into the following year knowing that growth will have predictable costs. CFO’s love to know that X amount of growth will cost Y rather than some “guesstimate”.
