Microsoft Launches New SME Products

Microsoft has long had a solution with “Small Business Server” for the small business with less than 75 users. They recently released the latest version of this, SBS 2008. This solution gives the small business an integrated single server solution allowing central data storage (and backups!), email (with PDA “push email”), database and policy enforcement for desktops/laptops. It’s intended to be a simple appliance solution that allows the small business to get online and have much of the functionality that was exclusive to larger companies.

However, SBS wasn’t for everyone. It’s limited to 75 users and because it’s a single server solution, it can handle only so much of a load. Microsoft has just released a solution called Windows Essential Business Server 2008 for companies with larger requirements and up to 300 users. The solution is spread across 3 or 4 servers, depending on the edition you require. This provides secure Internet access, anti malware services, Active Directory, Email, collaboration functionality and an optional database using SQL 2008 Standard.

Both SBS 2008 and EBS 2008 are based on the Windows Server 2008 platforms. Windows Server 2008 has proven to be a quiet success being stable, offering new functionality, greater capacities and being secure. C Infinity supports Windows Server 2008 with our secure online backup and our managed server hosting services.
