This week saw the launch of the new website www.mtug.ie for the Microsoft Technology User Groups (MTUG) in Ireland.
This is a collection of non-profit groups that teach their members about and how to best use Microsoft technologies. For example, there is a Windows User Group focusing on Windows technologies in the business. The Dublin Area group (DAMTUG) focuses on the developer community. There are SQL and Sharepoint user groups. And there are regional user groups in the North, Cork, Galway, Cork, etc.
Microsoft is the primary sponsor of MTUG and plays a key role in providing speakers, venues and paying for expenses for the groups.
It was recently decided that a new unified approach was required to raise awareness of the groups and to publicise and manage events. Critical to this was a new web presence.
C Infinity provided a bespoke server on its private cloud to MTUG to host the web presence. Running on a highly available Hyper-V cluster, managed by System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 and Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, this is an example of all of Microsoft’s new virtualisation and management systems in practice by a hosting partner. The server runs the latest edition of Windows Server with IIS and Microsoft SQL 2008, taking advantage of Microsoft’s web platform technologies.
