We are proud to announce that we have successfully upgraded our virtualisation and management platform that are key components to our Private Cloud dedicated server hosting service.
We run an Infrastructure-as-a-Service based in an Irish owned and located data centre, the number two data centre in Europe. This provides solution developers and organisations to build a Software-as-a-Service solution on an existing private cloud infrastructure in Ireland that is secure, fault tolerant and extremely reliable.
We have concluded the upgrade of our management platform along with a migration to our new machine virtualisation platform. It offers greater performance, better up times, flexibility than anything else on the market.
Our previous generation of virtualisation was stable and performed extremely well. It not only made things easier for us as an IT infrastructure service provider but allowed us to respond more quickly to changes for our customers. Virtualisation makes it possible to provide the elastic computing experience. When more resources are required they are just a few mouse clicks away. This allows C Infinity to provide a “use what you need – pay for what you use” model.
Our virtualisation cluster has proven very attractive to customers. Typically when someone wanted a database cluster to cater for hardware fault tolerance they could spend anything from €13,000 for a basic solution. That doesn’t even take account of power, rack space, Internet connectivity or skills. We can offer customers a clustered virtual machine that can move between physical servers with absolutely no perceivable downtime. In fact, they can be logged into the machine, running a continuous ping or copying files across the network during that virtual machine migration and nothing will be interrupted.
Performance has been a common question for those new to virtualisation.
The global average utilisation of physical server resources is 8%. We have carefully developed our platform taking care of industry and vendor best practices. No corners were cut. The C Infinity virtualisation platform does not use any of the bursting or oversubscription techniques that are common in the hosting industry. Usually these features are the first things that support desks will tell you to disable when there is a problem. It is possible for a physical server to struggle greatly when resources are oversubscribed and multiple virtual machines start requiring those resources. Its like a timeshare where you won’t have access to the property when you need it as it may be oversubscribed. When one of our customers pays for resources then they are guaranteed. Performance is critical. Our monitoring system is constantly measuring performance and we and our customers would get an alert in the event of an issue.
