15 Laptops Stolen From HSE Offices

I’ve just been reading in the news about 15 laptops that had been stolen from the HSE. The robbery occurred over the weekend at the Roscommon Primary Community and Continuing Care Department of the HSE.

It will be a relief for many, including the HSE, that 13 of the stolen laptops had some form of encryption which will hopefully make the data stored on the devices inaccessible.  It’s believed one of the laptops not encrypted, was used only for training purposes and contained no sensitive information.  There are some concerns over the other laptop without encryption, as to what information was stored on it. The HSE have made no further comments about the incident nor have they released information on their website.

This is a stark reminder, as was the 13 laptops stolen from the Belfast civil service, that laptops are a prime target for thieves and should be protected accordingly.

We provide data encryption for laptops among other data protection services. If you would like more information on how we can help protect your sensitive information then dont hesitate to contact us and arrange to speak with one of our specialists.
